Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft has dominated the MMO world for the last few years. A large part of WoW's success seems to be based onBlizzard's core design philosophy for the game which is "easy to learn, difficult to master". This philosophy makes it a breeze for the new or casual player to learn the basics of the game in a very short time and yet keeps hardcore players coming back for the challenge of making the most of their online characters.

This combination makes WoW a fun and addictive online game. The goal for any online game is to create an environment that encourages all types of players to return again and again and WoW has certainly done that. Currently over 11 million players from around the world are actively subscribed members and Warcraft has invaded the social awareness of almost all strata of modernlife. With an ever-expanding subscriber base and no end in site, it's clear that WoW's core design philosophy was the right one for this online gaming juggernaut.
