Rock music came from the blues and from jazz and was created when Elvis Presley strolled into Sun Studios and cut his first record. From Elvis came the now common tradition whereby British young people steal something from America, in this case good music, and make it significantly better. When Britain returns rock it becomes the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Gang of Four, the Sex Pistols, David Bowie, New Order, and later, Radiohead, Doves, and Blur. So completely have the British cornered the market on good rock music, you’ll be surprised to find so many great American bands in these links from the catchy guitar pop of 3rd Eye Blind to the Beach Boys, the Byrds and the Talking Heads.
